(NEW) The Crafters Select Series was born from Brian Dickel’s challenge to the luthiers at Huss & Dalton to envision and design a true dream build from the ground up. Dickel wanted to give his team a chance to stretch, to create, and to let individual artistry shine.
This one comes from Ignacio Ocaranza, the talented H&D finish specialist. Ignacio is the hands behind every sunburst and clear coat that leaves their shop, and as you can see from these pictures, he’s absolutely crushing it!
For his design, he built something that highlights both tone and visual depth in a way only a finisher would. The result is a CM-12 Custom featuring a Red Spruce top over Machiche back and sides. The 12-fret platform adds warmth and responsiveness, and the cutaway makes it as functional as it is elegant. Ignacio sprayed a striking custom-colored sunburst that draws you in immediately, then framed it with fully mitered purflings and flame maple bindings all around.
1 3/4" nut, 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle, 25" scale. The neck has a smooth satin finish and a comfortable mod V profile that measures .886" at the first fret and .945" at the ninth.
A slotted peghead with a diamond volute feels perfectly at home here. Macassar ebony for the fretboard and bridge adds rich contrast, while paua shell stingray inlays, logo, and rosette bring just the right amount of shimmer. Nickel Waverly tuners complete the look.
