(NEW) The Traditional series from Collings has made quite a splash over the last couple of years, and it is now a very large part of their overall production. Hearing the guitars, it's very easy to see why! This D2H A Traditional, in particular, is giving us a major GAS attack!
Without exaggeration, this is one of the warmest sounding brand-new Collings dreads that we've heard in a long time. Adirondack spruce has a reputation for its stiffness, which is great for unlimited headroom and dynamic tone, but can sometimes result in a new guitar sounding tight or restricted. Not the case with this instrument! The Collings mid-range sparkle is there, but with a wonderful compliment of bass and a richness that builds upon the powerful Collings sound without replacing it. In a word, fantastic!
Also fantastic is the color of the Adi on this guitar, pale with wide grained, it's right up our alley. Perfectly quartered Indian rosewood back and sides, as per usual, and tasteful Traditional series appointments give this guitar a classic look. The T series guitars come standard with Sitka braces, forward shifted and scalloped, no tongue brace, small maple bridge plates and a thinner nitrocellulose lacquer finish for maximum volume and response. This particular instrument has a 1 3/4" nut, 2 5/16" string spacing at the saddle, and the standard Traditional neck carve. Other specs include ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone pins, Waverly tuners, and the excellent Collings-made hard case.
A tremendous example of why Collings continues to do everything right. The team at Collings would tell you that they're always improving, but how do you improve on perfection?
