(NEW) We knew that the Traditional models from Collings would be a big hit... who wouldn't like the clarity and power of Collings, combined with a warmer voice and a lighter build? What we didn't expect, though, is that the Julian Lage signature OM (the OM1JL) would single-handedly create a massive interest in satin finishes! Well, maybe not massive, but appreciable. We must confess, there's something about that quick, smooth satin that is very appealing.
So when they made it an option for the Traditional line at the 2020 NAMM show, we immediately started placing our orders, and we are very lucky to have received this gorgeous D1T S less than a month since the show!
The other thing that we really like about the satin finish is that it really shows off the next-level quality of the materials that Collings is using. This D1T has a perfect, tight-grained Sitka top, Honduran mahogany, and dark ebony fingerboard, bridge and peghead. We had this one built with a 1 11/16" nut and 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle. Collings has slimmed down the once chunky Traditional neck carve, and in 2020 it is almost indistinguishable from the standard Mod V. Other features include animal glue construction, forward-shifted scalloped Sitka braces, no tongue brace, small bridge plate, rolled fingerboard edges, Stew Mac faux-tortoise bridge pins, and relic'd Waverly tuners. Includes original TKL hard case.
