(NEW) As you know, we roll DEEP with Collings, and are lucky enough to receive a couple hundred guitars a year from them. It's not always all about whatever is latest and greatest from our friends in Austin, sometimes we just need to take a look around and say "What would we build for ourselves today, if we could build anything? It's a Collings, at worst it will be GREAT!"
With that inspiration, we went back to basics with a D1A, arguably one of Collings' strongest models, but decided to dress it up just a little bit to make it a lifetime guitar that anyone would be proud to own. The "A" stands for Adirondack spruce, of course, the traditional king of top woods with unlimited headroom and paint-peeling volume. It takes a mahogany dread to the next level, and we took IT to the next level by having Collings apply their perfect Style 1 sunburst. The burst won't keep you from counting grain lines, if that's your thing... this one has some TIGHT grain. Collings still picks the best top for every guitar, every time. A little more gingerbread, if you please? We've got a lovely abalone rosette and stately torch peghead inlay to complete the look. Nobody is going to mistake this guitar for a D-18 any time soon.
1 11/16" nut, 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle, long 25 1/2" scale length. Ebony fingerboard with dot inlays, ebony bridge and pins. Nickel Waverly tuners and includes hard case.
Just as sweet as a dreadnought is supposed to be!
