(NEW) The L-00 shape has truly taken its place as one of the iconic guitar designs. Especially in recent years, it seems like every builder has a version of this original Gibson invention, and everyone from songwriters to rockers to blues/ragtime players seems to have a place in their heart for a good L-00. Collings' version is called the C10, and their most vintage-inspired C10 is the C10-35. It has some design tweaks that simultaneously warm up and dry out the voice, for a more vintage-oriented guitar experience... with all the intonation, playability, fit and finish that we expect from the crew at Collings.
This C10-35 has a Sitka spruce top that has ramped (non-scalloped) Sitka braces, a thin maple bridge plate and an abbreviated tongue brace. These features alone make it unique in the Collings lineup (with the exception of its big brother, the CJ-35) and contribute to the vintage vibe in the sound. The back and sides are Honduran mahogany, as is the neck. The neck profile is thicker than usual on these, and is derived from Collings' "Vintage Now" shape. The added neck mass adds to the sustain of the guitar, and dictates a 1 3/4" nut and 2 3/8" string spacing at the cut-through saddle. Short 24 7/8" scale length. The fingerboard and bridge are Wenge, which has the hardness of ebony but is lighter weight, a good mix of ebony and rosewood attributes.
Cosmetically, who could argue with that sunburst?!! Simple ivoroid binding with no top purfling and two-ring rosette. It has a fire stripe pick guard, inspired by the old L-00s. Waverly tuning machines with ivoroid buttons. Includes original TKL hard case.
A killer little box that does a lot more than you'd expect. It can take you there!
