(USED) “You’re my Waterloo,” as the infamous Libertine, Pete Doherty, sings…. and so could you be crooning too, along with your very own ‘Loo, if you were to jump on this increasingly rare find that our shop is currently graced with.
As you might be aware, the Waterloo series was dreamed up by the late, great innovator Bill Collings, in an attempt to bring back the stripped-down, Depression-era instruments from nearly a century ago. The WL-14 stands as the flagship guitar from this series, and the “Scissortail” is a direct offshoot from that model, sharing most of the same basic specs, but with one key difference: The Scissortail has a maple back and sides, as opposed to the standard mahogany. The maple gives this one a slightly crisper and punchier sound, in addition to an obviously brighter visual aesthetic.
Along with the maple, this instrument comes with a spruce top, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, 1 & 3/4” ebony nut and ebony bridge, and a 2 & 3/8” bone saddle. In addition, it comes with the original Waterloo deep-V neck, an X-brace pattern under the top, and Golden Age throwback tuners. And lest we forget, the hand-painted Scissortail bird adorning the headstock! Sing, birdie, sing…
The condition is excellent — some light play-wear/pick swipes on the top, along with a few small dings. There is also some minimal fret-wear on the high strings in the first position, but it does not affect the playability.
We’re big believers in the Waterloo mission here at AMW, and this one serves to further cement that bond. Again, we don’t see these guys (any ‘Loos, really) come through here often, so don’t miss your opportunity to snag this rad guitar! Hardshell case included.
Video is of a previously sold instrument.
