YOU'RE MOVING?
You heard right! After 23 years in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood we have purchased a building and are moving to the South Side! Our new location is 1219 Bingham Street, one block north of Carson Street and nicely situated close to our friends at Club Cafe and City Theatre. We will be open to the public on September 15th.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
It's probably a step we should have taken a long time ago, but we've been busy! There was a little serendipity involved, too. Our friend, painter and fellow banjo enthusiast Rick Landesberg was the previous owner of this property. Once a muffler shop, then a bike messenger depot, 1219 became the home of Landesberg Designs in the '90s. After retiring and now spending much of his time out of town, Rick decided it was time to sell, and your guys at AMW saw the potential for a world-class music store pretty much immediately, purchasing the building in March of 2025.
FROM MUFFLERS TO BIKES TO DESIGN TO GUITARS?
Oh yeah! Too cliché? We are currently doing some build-out and moving over the inventory little by little, as well as constructing a new stage for bigger and better events, workshops and in-store performances. The best part, though, is that we will go from displaying around 100 instruments (with the rest waiting patiently in their cases) to displaying many times that amount. Ever been in a place and had, say, 100 Collings at your disposal? Get ready!
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?
We're excited, too! There will be some changes from the way we've always done things: after being open to the public six days a week for 23 years, we are changing to a mix of "by appointment" and "ring for entry" hours. The schedule is TBD, and we will still be operational in Squirrel Hill until mid-September. Web sales will continue uninterrupted. We are not currently accepting repairs and will be referring jobs to our friends at Steel City Guitar Works, Pittsburgh Guitars and N'Stuff Music while we put together the workshop section of our new store. We will be reducing the accessory and string SKU counts ongoing, and will refer much of that business to those same shops.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
A lotta movin' stuff, that's what! So that we could decide on our store layout, we necessarily began by moving redundant inventory (stuff we had multiples of) and then progressed to some smaller brands while still keeping the majority of our inventory at the original shop. We've now hit the point where certain major lines have moved entirely to the new store. IMPORTANT! If you are planning a visit, these brands are now at the new store.
