2020 Northfield NTO-FT1I Flat-Top Octave Mandolin, Italian Spruce, Black Walnut - USED

(USED) We love the flat-top octave mandolin that Northfield makes (well, we love everything that Northfield makes!)  This instrument will have a special appeal to guitar players who double on mandolin, or to any mandolin player that wants to deepen their sonic arsenal.  The resonance and warmth that emanates from these instruments is truly a wonderful thing!  Whereas most singers wouldn't accompany themselves on a standard mandolin, the flat-top octave does that job amazingly well.

This one has an Italian spruce top with black walnut back/sides.  For those who are new to walnut, this domestic tonewood has a similar stiffness to weight ratio as Honduran mahogany, and we hear it as offering more sustain in many cases.  There is a harmonious quality to this instrument in that black walnut is also used for the neck, fingerboard and bridge. 

1 13/32" nut width, 22" scale length.  This one has tortoise body binding, a clear pick guard and a single ring, 7-band rosette with walnut triangle accent.  The tuners are Gotoh with black buttons. 

To get an idea of the size of this instrument, it is 13 5/8" wide at the lower bout, just 2 3/8" deep at the tail and just over 3 feet long, overall.  The condition here is excellent, with no issues to report.  Includes original fiberglass hard case.
