(USED) Here we have an absolutely lovely and distinctive D-18 Custom Shop from Martin, possessing lots of bespoke details and a lovely vibe/sound. It was spec'd as a D-18, but has Indian rosewood back and sides, so right away we find ourselves in unusual territory! It has an Italian Alpine spruce top, a great pairing with EIR and giving a good bit of complexity and headroom compared to Sitka spruce.
Under the hood, we have 5/16" scalloped Adi braces, with a Golden Era 1/4" tone bar. The sound is warm and thick, but there is a welcome clarity in the midrange, it splits the "boutique" sound with the Martin sound, quite nicely. This is a SHORT SCALE (24.9") dreadnought, unusual for sure, and probably contributes to the warm and playability.
Custom appointments abound, including tortoise body binding, wood fiber rosette inlays, faux-tortoise pickguard trimmed down for the shorter scale length, and the C.F. Martin block peghead inlay. It has a mahogany neck with 1 11/16" nut width, 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle and a modified low oval profile. Ebony fingerboard has no inlay on the face. The tuners are gold Grover open-backs.
This guitar includes the original hard case and all of the Custom Shop paperwork. The condition is excellent with very light pick wipes on the pick guard and no fret wear or cosmetic issues, except for one deep ding in the peghead (see pics)
