(USED) Before the Traditional series came along, Collings began revamping their Gibby-inspired 00 (C10) and jumbo models (CJ) to impart them with a more classic feel and sound. These were given the designation of "35" and a combination of heartier neck profiles, light build, ramped bracing and abbreviated tongue brace does indeed give them a more vintage-oriented voice. The tone is nice and dry, the guitars are light and responsive.
This C10 35 has a lot of vibe and a lot of punch, it's a great example. It has the distinctive black paint on the Sitka top only, with the mahogany back and sides being stained dark. It also has a back-painted fire stripe pick guard that really pops, visually. Other cosmetics are very simple: ivoroid body binding with no top purfling, two-ring rosette, ivoroid pins and tuner buttons.
This has a Wenge fingerboard and bridge, a lightweight alternative to ebony that wears better than Indian rosewood under the fingers. The neck shape is based on Collings' Vintage Now profile, with 1 3/4" nut width, 2 3/8" string spacing at the saddle, short 24 7/8" scale length.
The condition is excellent, though the thin finish of the top has gassed out and displays a bit of grain texture. The cut-through saddle was lowered from the bottom and doesn't align visually with the wings of the bridge, but the setup is perfectly buttery. The case is a newer TKL OO case. (Not a Collings case)
