(USED) My oh my... you don't see or hear OMs like this every day! We are lucky to be representing this magnificent Cocobolo Orchestra Model from 2016, with label signed by the one and only Bill Collings. This was obviously one of those extra special "kitchen sink" builds that was ordered to be top of the line, both visually and tonally.
The top is German spruce, probably our favorite tone wood to pair with rosewood family back/sides on a Collings. Those back and sides are nothing to sneeze at, either... only the finest book-matched Cocobolo with some distinctive sap wood in the center. Being a "3" series model, the cosmetic appointments include abalone rosette, b/w/b top purfling, gold Waverly tuners, ebony fingerboard with no inlays (don't worry, there are side dots) and a marquetry back strip. Collings' legendary sunburst is on full display. The body, neck and peghead are all bound in curly koa, and there is a flourish inlay on the peghead.
For specs, this is a long (25 1/2") scale guitar with 1 3/4" nut and 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle. It has a mahogany neck with modified "V" profile. Under the hood, the braces have been upgraded to stiffer Adirondack spruce, and the tongue brace has been removed to loosen up the upper bout, generally heard as a slightly warmer sound.
Speaking of the sound, we would put it up there with some of the best we've ever heard! It is rich, loud, undeniably beautiful in tone. The Cocobolo/German combo is working overtime, superb! The condition couldn't be better, at six years old it has very faint pick swipes on the pick guard, no cracks, no dings, and only the mildest fret wear under the unwound strings. Includes TKL hard case (call us if you would like to discuss a Calton or Collings Vintage case upgrade for this wonderful instrument!)
If Collings had Cocobolo right now (many years go by without any being on offer) this guitar would cost just shy of $11K to build today.
