(USED) Pat Foster of Spokane, Washington built a great reputation for his Martin-inspired instruments before turning his focus to concert-quality classicals. We are fortunate to have a couple of his steel strings in the shop on consignment, and we find them to be assertive, compelling guitars with an understated appearance that keeps focus on the purity of sound.
You've heard us go on and on about the 0000 shape (an oversized OM that retains normal OM depth) and how it is the Swiss Army Knife of acoustic guitars, performing every task equally well. Strummed, finger or flatpicked, the shape rises to the occasion. This guitar is part of a duo, sequential guitars that were ordered at the same time for the customer to compare the effects of the top wood on the sound. This one has European spruce on top and Indian rosewood back/sides. The mahogany neck has a flat, modern D shape that measures .878" thick at the first fret and .9" at the ninth. The nut width measures just a hair under 1 13/16" and the string spacing at the saddle is 2 1/4". Long 25.4" (Martin) scale length.
Appointments include wood binding, abalone rosette, pyramid bridge and Waverly tuners. Structural condition is perfect, but the thin varnish finish has gathered its share of small dings and there is very minor fret wear under the unwound strings in the first position. Includes hard case.
