(USED) This moody and mysterious looking guitar is a Baritone Model built by Steve Saville of Saville Guitars back in 2009. Unlike conventional baritone acoustics (as conventional as a baritone acoustic can be!) this guitar was built to run standard medium-gauge strings and tune from D to D in the standard intervals. The cedar top and rosewood back and sides were chosen to give it a lush and lively tone, even when played delicately with fingers. Indeed, if this guitar is hit aggressively with a pick, the tones can get a bit wild and zing-y. No, this guitar was made to be approached with some sensitivity. Saville has studied with storied builder Ervin Somogyi, and this shows in the tonal sensitivity and nuance of this guitar.
The craftsmanship is excellent, and the aesthetics obviously lean toward the "woody" with radial wood rosette, radial wood purfling, flamed koa binding and a rosewood laminate on the back of the headstock. The neck is a sturdy 5-piece laminate and possesses a comfortable modern C shape, not thick but not overly dainty, either. Even with the extended 27 1/2 inch scale, the feel of the 1 3/4" nut and 2 1/4" string spacing at the saddle and the medium strings mean that there is very little adjustment from a standard flat-top acoustic. It gives you instant access to some lower registers, and handles D standard and "Drop C" very well for fingerstyle.
Other appointments include beautiful sculpted bridge, snakewood bridge pins, and Waverly open-gear tuners. The condition is excellent with a few very faint marks in the top, basically no fret wear. No cracks or structural issues of any kind. Includes heavy-duty custom Ameritage hard case.
A beautiful and functional, hand-made entrée into the sonic depths! Fingerstyle and studio guitarists, this Saville is calling your name....
