2009 Collings AT-16 Archtop, European Spruce, Maple, Armstrong Pickup - USED

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!

(USED) Probably the most collectable model that Collings ever made, Bill's take on the classic 16" archtop is now a classic in its own right.  It's truly a timeless design, executed here by one of the great American builders.  Legend has it that back in the day Bill would build these himself, outside of the regular stream of Collings production, using his best materials, picked expressly for the purpose.  When this instrument was built in 2009, Bill would have been firing on all cylinders, that's for sure, and we are proud to represent this excellent example.

Originally commissioned by Dwain at Hill Country Guitars (then in its Austin location) this instrument has a rare factory-installed Armstrong humbucker, with output jack where the endpin would be.  In our video demo, you can hear Jason Borisoff playing it more or less flat EQ through a small Magnatone Starlite combo amp.

The AT-16 has a solid European spruce top, flamed maple back, sides and neck.  It has a gorgeous full-body sunburst and is fully bound in ivoroid, including the ebony pick guard.  It has a compensated ebony bridge, ebony fingerboard with compound radius and dot inlays, and Waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons.  It has a long 25 1/2" scale neck with 1 11/16" nut width and 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle.  The neck is a C profile and measures .885" at the first fret and .978" at the ninth.  This guitar weighs in at just 5 lbs, 1 oz.

Condition is excellent with the lightest of fret wear in the first position under the unwound strings, a few swipe marks on the pick guard and one ding in the face of the peghead near the low E tuner post.  Light tarnish on the tail piece.  Includes Ameritage hard case in excellent condition.

If you've read this far, you know that these are rare (fewer than 100 ever made) and highly prized.  Thanks again to Pat Hodge and Jason Borisoff from Pittsburgh's Penna Players for helping to demonstrate this guitar!
