(USED) Even after selling thousands of instruments of quality, sometimes a particular piece can still capture our hearts... and that's exactly what is happening with this wonderful Passernig mandolin!
Stefan Passernig hails from West Austin, TX, and worked closely with Bill Collings back in the day to get Collings mandolin production rolling. Indeed, it seems like Bill's otherworldly attention to detail has rubbed off on Mr. Passernig, for this mandolin is wanting for nothing. It's a bonafide classic, with Adirondack spruce, lightly flamed maple, and a pretty much perfect sunburst. The tone is sweet and supple, but not lacking in presence and projection. He nailed it.
The nut width is just about 1 3/32". Fully bound in ivoroid, it has a compound radius ebony fingerboard, bound ebony pick guard, ebony bridge and James tailpiece. The dark ebony peghead features the Passernig logo and a lovely flourish.
Condition is truly excellent. There are a few stray marks, expected on an instrument with a french polished varnish finish. a couple light dings in the area of the scroll, no cracks or structural issues, only the lightest fretwear under the E course after a fresh setup and light level/re-crown in our shop. Comes with (like new) high quality fiberglass Bobelock case with shoulder strap and in-case hygrometer. We have other case options, including Calton or Crossrock, if you’d like to plan your world tour.
This one is a real prize, folks! Right up there with the finest mandolins that we've heard. It’s got bark, sizzle, snort, and shizzle.
