(USED) We are pleased to present this lovely D1A as part of a small collection of well cared for Collings guitars that just arrived on consignment. If you're new to Collings, know that, to a guitar, they are loud, clear, and came from the mind of the late great Bill Collings... one of the best to ever do it. Collings ushered in an era of care and consistency in guitar building that became a standard for every other brand in the industry to aspire to.
The D1A is Collings "ringer" of a bluegrass guitar, powerful, a true banjo killer (sorry banjoists, was nice knowing ya!) It's the real deal, and Bill Collings himself was known to say that it in his opinion its about the best thing that they make. This one is in stellar condition for being 20 years old, a few pick swipes on the guard and a new set of frets (no wear) but no other structural or cosmetic issues of any kind. The sound is wide open. It's a great one!
Tight-grained Adirondack spruce top with subtle hints of bear claw, mahogany back/sides/neck. Modified V neck profile, long 25 1/2" scale, 1 11/16" nut, 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle. Style 1 appointments include tortoise body binding, 3-ring rosette and dot inlays on the fingerboard. It has Waverly open-back tuners and the original hard case.
