(USED) If you've been looking for an impeccably crafted, rock-solid and inarguably LUSH sounding acoustic guitar, built with the best materials available and in near-mint condition, then you want to take a nice long look at the latest McPherson MG to come through our shop! This guitar has been meticulously cared for, and shows almost no signs of ever being played. If you're after a pre-owned McPherson that covers the rosewood tone spectrum, read on...
This MG 4.5 XP has a tight-grained Adirondack spruce top, and gorgeous Macassar ebony back and sides. Ebony is on the stiffer side of the rosewood spectrum, so it has a very focused set of overtones, much like Brazilian rosewood does... in fact, some players much prefer the look and sound of figured Macassar ebony vs some of the stumpy and flat-sawn Brazilian that ends up on guitars these days.
This is a long 25 1/2" scale guitar with 1 3/4" nut and 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle. The neck is McPherson's comfortable soft-V neck profile, and the cantilevered (floating) fingerboard design doesn't inhibit vibration in the upper bout. This, combined with the offset sound hole design and the proprietary laminated bracing accounts for the MG's rich sound.
Other appointments include figured koa binding with crisp purfling lines at every edge. The ebony fingerboard has no fret markers, the frets are gold EVO and the tuners are closed-gear gold Schallers. The pickup is an under saddle LR Baggs. The premium Ameritage case has a few small scuffs, but is generally in excellent condition and has its own humidification system (instructions included.) The guitar itself has a couple very small dings on the top in the lower bout, but is otherwise flawless.
