1999/2000 Collings MT-1 SB, Rare Early A Model, Engelmann Spruce, Maple - USED

(USED) For those of you who’ve been on this crazy journey with us for more than two decades, you may recall that Collings introduced  mandolins to their guitar line in July of 1999 at the Summer NAMM Show.  Early on, there were to be two models: the MT-1 and the MT-2. Here’s a well played-in example of one of Collings earliest mandolins, the MT-1 (later to be discontinued and replaced by its more spartan satin-finish cousin, known as the MT).  This instrument combines elements of the MT (Engelmann spruce top) and the MT-2 (full gloss finish, top and back body binding) and has had a few player upgrades over its 25+ years in service. 

The fine mandolin has an Engelmann spruce over maple, maple neck with "speed neck" applied at the Collings shop. Compound radius ebony fingerboard, standard 1 1/8" nut width, ebony bridge.  The bound ebony pickguard (made by renowned Kansas luthier Leo Posch) Nugget tailpiece, strap button and K&K pickup were added later.  

Condition is very good with a goodly amount of honest play wear dings and scuffs all over.  There appears to be a very small (almost imperceptible) impression impact on the treble side of the end pin, it was well-repaired at some point and is stable now, we were also able to minimize its visual appearance with some buffing and touch up.  The frets show a bit of wear under the unwound courses.
