(USED) We love unusual early Collings guitars, and this one is definitely the most unique Collings in our shop right now, from any era! This striking OM is finished in translucent black, a color that we haven't had on any other flat top Collings guitar, and a tone that nicely sets off the deeply figured maple back and sides.
The story goes that this guitar was built custom for a contractor who was helping to outfit windows in the Collings shop in 1993. He owned the instrument until 2010, when it was brought back to Collings, given a clean bill of health, and sold to its current owner.
OM1 Cutaway dated 1/93 with label signed by Bill Collings. Sitka spruce top, maple back, sides and neck, translucent black finish. Cutaway for upper fret access. Collings "C" profile neck with haircut headstock, ebony fingerboard with long pattern diamond and square inlays, fully bound body, neck and peghead. 1 11/16" nut with 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle. Passive undersaddle pickup and strap button installed.
The condition is very good for its age, with assorted small dings around the top and some pick swirls on the black pick guard. Some light finish impressions and very light hazing on the back (needs to be turned to the light to see.) No cracks or structural issues whatsoever, barely any fret wear.
The guitar has a great strummed sound with a percussive element to the voice. Classic Collings clarity for fingerstyle. Includes original hard case.
