1968 Martin 0-18, Adirondack Spruce, Mahogany - USED

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE

(USED) As the sun was setting on the swinging sixties, Martin was producing some of the last small-bodied standard guitars that would come out of Nazareth for some time.  This 0-18 has the distinction of having an Adirondack spruce top, in an era where Sitka had long been the norm.  This top has a bunch of bear claw markings, too, making it that much more unusual.

This 0-18 is a 14-fret guitar with Adi top and mahogany back/sides/neck.  It has a short 24.9" scale length, with 1 11/16" nut and 2 1/8" string spacing at the saddle.  The neck has a modified V profile and measures .88" thick at the first fret, 1.028" at the ninth.  Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

As far as condition, this is well past its original owner, so we can only outline what we observe: the Grover tuners appear to be original and are working well.  Fret wear is minimal.  The bridge and bridge plate may be replacements, the pick guard and bridge pins most certainly are.  There are two cleated pick guard cracks, near the waist on the treble side and at the bottom edge of the pick guard close to the bridge.  There is little obvious cosmetic wear, but we believe this guitar has had a light, loving overspray... finish checks appear under a smoother top coat, only when turned to the light.  They might escape your notice with the naked eye and don't really show up in our photos.

The action is pretty close to current Martin factory spec, very playable most of the way up the neck, but the saddle is more or less at it's playable end.  We'd recommend that the new owner plan for an eventual neck reset to achieve a taller saddle and stronger break angle.  The case is a more modern arched top in very good condition.
