1955 Gibson J-185, Small Jumbo, Sitka Spruce, Maple - USED - ON HOLD

ON HOLD!!

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!

(USED) As the slightly smaller cousin to Gibson's self-proclaimed "King of the Flat Tops" (the J-200) it's hard to think that the J-185 ever got a fair shake.  Truly, though, it is the exact same design in a more comfortable package, and in many ways is the more versatile of the two, tonally.  This 1955 example in rare natural finish comes to us with a few battle scars but also with a clean bill of health thanks to Brothers Music.  It will now continue to serve from now until question marks!

Sitka spruce top, maple back and sides, rosewood fingerboard and bridge.  1 11/16" nut width, 2 1/8" string spacing at the saddle, short scale (approx 24 7/8").  Weighs in at just over 4 lbs.

Vintage guitars, especially those having a 70th birthday, have to be closely studied for condition, and here's our report: neck reset has been done, saddle is nice and tall, so there is plenty of adjustability in the setup (it is set up now with medium action).  No cracks at all, but substantial cosmetic wear, appears to have been owned by a heavy strummer for some time.  Frets, tuners and bridge plate all appear to be newer, with no fret wear really to speak of.  Finish checking throughout.  Includes (we believe) original hardshell case.
