Collings MF5 Varnish Mandolin, Italian Spruce, One-Piece Maple Back, Torch & Wire - NEW

(NEW) The mandolin is, as they say, as good as it gets.  The culmination of all of Collings' artistry and craftsmanship, the instrument is an absolute feast for the eyes and the ears.

It's starts with the time-tested and beloved florentine design, which paved the way for the next 100 years of mandolin players, from Bill Monroe to Chris Thile.  For projection and articulation, this shape has yet to be bested.  On this particular MF5, we've opted for an Italian spruce top for a nice mix of power and complexity, a one-piece maple back with intoxicating flame and the coveted varnish finish... thinner and softer, the varnish allows the instrument to breath and vibrate like no other finish can.  The choice of violin makers for centuries, varnish simply produces a mandolin that sounds "right".

This one has a standard 1 1/8" nut width on a compensated ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays.  It has ivoroid body, neck, peghead and pick guard binding, and the pick guard is Collings' design, made of ebony.  The headstock is inlaid with the beautiful "Torch & Wire" flourish, an elegant and wonderful touch.  The brushed nickel James tailpiece makes string changes a breeze.  Includes hard case.

Nowhere to go from here, folks!  Thanks to our great friend Bryce Rabideau (Small Hours, Buffalo Rose) for his playing and thoughtful commentary in our video!
