NOTE - THIS SHOW IS AT ACOUSTIC MUSIC WORKS' NEW LOCATION, 1219 BINGHAM ON THE SOUTH SIDE!
Saturday November 15th, 2025 - Originally from Edison NJ, Matthew Charles Heulitt was surrounded by music in his home. His mom was a classical piano teacher, and his older siblings steeped him in 70’s rock. By the time MCH picked up a guitar at the age of 13 he was already sprinting towards a career in music.
Jazz became a part of his musical universe at the Interlochen Arts Academy camp and high school. After getting a bachelors in jazz guitar and studio music from the University of Miami in Florida, Matthew spent the next 25 years in the San Francisco bay area as a free-lance guitarist for hire: touring, recording, teaching, and leading his own bands. During his California years he toured/recorded/performed with Vusi Mahlasela, Taj Mahal, Sting, Bob Weir, Sammy Hagar, Keiko Matsui, Ronnie Spector and many more. For fifteen years he played New Orleans funk with drumming legend Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), and another twelve years with Narada Michael Walden’s band (Jeff Beck, The Mahavishnu Orchestra). In 2025 Matthew appeared on Carlos Santana’s record “Sentient”. In 2022 after relocating to the Pittsburgh area, Matthew has focused more on playing trio gigs with David Throckmorton and Tony Grey, teaching full-time, and gardening. As a bandleader, writer, and producer, he strives to bridge the worlds of rock, R&B, and contemporary jazz into a tapestry of soulful music.
A 2015 feature article in Guitar Player Magazine said MCH “...represents a scarce breed of guitarist these days…“ ~ Matt Blackman
Mila Shadel hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and hasn’t put her guitar down since she first picked it up at the age of 10. She attended Duquesne University where she received her degree in Jazz Guitar performance. While she was there, she started playing in the vibrant local Pittsburgh jazz scene, which allowed her to get experience on the bandstand and to learn about the rich music history that the scene has to offer. Since her college days, she has continued to work with some of the best jazz musicians in Pittsburgh and started to lead her own groups at different venues.
The music she plays in her shows reflect the classic jazz guitar trio sound, often pulling from the discographies of George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, and Emily Remler. She also enjoys arranging songs from other genres of music, such as rock, r&b, and pop and incorporating them into her shows. Her own compositions are heavily influenced by the musicians in her life and reflect her deep love for the music.
The musicians will be backed up by Ava Lintz (bass) and Throck (drums).
