(USED) 1983 Gold Star GF-100HF
Those of us of the banjo persuasion know these banjos well. A certain domestic banjo company got a little lazy during the 1970’s and early 80’s (they were some dark days for American manufacturing in general) and a market for high quality instruments imported from Japan developed quickly. The Gold Star banjos - made in Japan from 1978 to 1986 - were great banjos and might single-handedly have lit the fire that got certain domestic companies off their duffs and back to the benches in the mid 1980’s.
This banjo is a fine example, mahogany resonator and neck with three ply hard maple rim, pre-war style tone ring, ebony fretboard, and high quality hardware. The tone is strong, clean, spanky, responsive, and LOUD! These banjos have stood the test of time and the neck is straight, the parts fit nice and tight, fret wear is minimal, and it’s just gone through a comprehensive setup at our shop. It will get spikes at 5 and 7 and the drum is tightened to a snappy 91 on the Drum Dial.
It has a hard shell case from that era (not sure if its original) and the original Presto tailpiece.
