(NEW) The 'Loos are finally coming through again! It has been a good long time since we've had a brand new example of the WL-12 in stock, and we sure are happy to see this one. A 12-fret maple version of the flagship WL-14, it has the added warmth of the 12-fret bridge placement, but the clarity and punch that we associate with maple.
Waterloo instruments are spec'd simply with "Spruce" as the designated top wood, and the vast majority of them are Sitka. We believe that this particular instrument was fit with an Adirondack top. How do we know this? Adirondack takes the sunburst a little different, having a slightly more yellow cast (vs Sitka's more red appearance under sunburst). After noticing that, we always go inside with our flashlights and inspection mirror and, sure enough, that don't look like no Sitka to us! Collings won't confirm or deny, so you'll have to trust us on this one.
The WL-12 is short 24.9" scale with 1 3/4" nut, 2 3/8" string spacing at the saddle and a modified low oval neck profile. This particular neck measures .92" thick at the first fret, 1.068" at the ninth. All WL-12 models are X-braced and have a truss rod. Other features include rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, ebony bridge and pins and Golden Age tuners with ebony buttons.
