Huss & Dalton TDR 42-Style, Thermo-Cured Adirondack Spruce, Brazilian Rosewood - NEW
(NEW) We've been teasing this one for a few weeks, but we promise that it will be worth the wait! A few years back, Huss & Dalton procured some of the world's best old-growth Brazilian rosewood from Walter Lipman, who owned the Euphonon Company. This wood has been seasoning for decades, is both lightweight and beautiful... some of the finest guitar-building material in the known universe. A few sets ended up on their rare 25th Anniversary instruments, and we laid claim to our share of sets for special projects, including a Pilgrim or two and this stunner or a TDR. With Kimberly and Mark Dalton announcing their retirement (the company will be safe in the hands of longtime luthier Brian Dickel) we knew that it was time to pull out all the stops and create an heirloom-grade guitar for the ages. This is all that and more.
It has a tight-grained, Thermo-Cured (torrefied) Adirondack spruce top, the aforementioned Brazilian From The Heavens, and enough pearl to make the traditionalist players' hearts start racing! We spec'd this as a "42" style which includes pearl top border, fretboard extension, rosette, snowflake inlays on the fingerboard and a torch on the peghead for good measure. Fully bound in ivoroid, with zipper back strip and diamond volute bringing up the rear. The neck is a mod-V profile with satin finish, 1 3/4" nut and 2 1/4" string spacing at the saddle. The tuners are open-gear Gotohs w/ H&D logo engraved. The case is their standard tweed TKL, but let us know if you'd like to talk about wrapping a Calton around it...
The sound is... excellent. You'd be hard pressed to find a more focused, mature sounding dreadnought straight from the shop. It isn't beholden to any vintage Martin, modern gunslinger guitar or anything else, really. It's just RIGHT. Mark Dalton and crew at the peak of their powers.
