(NEW) We are proud to represent the guitars of Oneida, NY's Chad Gillander, and this latest batch of instruments take a big step forward in their fit and finish while continuing to deliver great sound via Chad's painstaking voicing process. Unlike the wood whisperers of old, Gillander takes a more modern approach with frequency analysis, nodal testing and of course deflection. Gillander guitars have an open, full-spectrum voice, even brand new.
This Small Jumbo model features a beautiful Sitka spruce top, allowed to vibrate very actively thanks to the rigidity of the laminated side structure. The back is solid walnut, which has a similar fundamental to mahogany but in this case a notable increase in sustain. The instrument has a satisfying low end rumble but still plenty of balance and high clarity in the trebles. At 15 3/8" across the lower bout, it splits the difference between an OM and a jumbo, and it has Manzer wedge body construction, shallower on the bass side and deeper on the treble, for comfort without affecting the voice. Appointments include mosaic rosette and mosaic end wedge details. Wood body binding with blind bound ebony fingerboard. Gold fret wire and gold Schaller Grandtune tuners.
The neck is a modern low oval profile, with 1 3/4" nut, 2 5/16" string spacing at the saddle, and a scale length of 25 1/2". The neck depth measures .856" at the first fret, .919" at the ninth. While the body and peghead overlay are finished in high gloss, the neck has a smooth satin oil finish.
If new, talented builders are your passion you owe it to yourself to explore Gillander Guitars! Impressive in every way, and Chad is just getting started!
