2006 Collings D1A Varnish, Adirondack Spruck, Mahogany - USED

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!

(USED) Ah, the venerable Collings D1A-Varnish.  There is not a lot we can say about the Collings D1A that hasn’t been said.  It’s the workhorse, it’s the banjo killer, it’s the most versatile dreadnought in the Collings line.  As we’ve said many times: “It’s the one to have if you are having only one.”  But let us not forget that there are three variants of the D1A: The “classic” Collings D1A, the “Traditional Series D1A-T”, and the newest “Hill Country" chapter in the Collings evolution, the “Collings D1A-HC.”

Of the classic series D1A guitars, clearly the most robust were the labor-intensive micro-thin finish *varnish* guitars offered by Collings for over a decade.  This guitar dates to 2006 (ser #12730) and is one of the best examples we’ve ever heard, and it sports what is clearly the nicest TR-style pickguard this country boy has ever seen.

This D1A is one of our AMW customs, with the added amenities of Style 3 backstrip, tortoise-bound fretboard and headstock with crosscut ivoroid purfling, and the 1 and 23/32” nut width (2 and 3/16” saddle spacing.)  This guitar is a hoss, it is a take-no-prisoners workhorse, and it is a thing of resplendent beauty.  It will sell quickly, and it will serve as a trophy for a life well lived for the person who acquires it.  It’s that simple.

As we’ve said on occasion: For those of you who ask us to call when something VERY special arrives? Consider yourself called.
