1947 Gibson L5, Spruce Top, Birdseye Maple - USED

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!

(USED) The L5 is one of the Big Daddies of the archtop world, one of the standards by which all 17" acoustic archtops are judged.  This example from the late '40s has a rare blonde finish, a solid spruce top and some great looking birdseye maple on the back, with the sides and neck having a more standard flamed maple look.  The scale length measures approximately 25 1/4", the nut width is 1 11/16" and the string spacing at the saddle is 2 1/8".  The neck is a fast C shape measuring .895" at the first fret and .989" at the ninth.  Rosewood fingerboard with large block inlays, rosewood bridge.

Overall condition is very good.  There is moderate fret wear, mostly first and second positions.  There is a repaired top crack on the bass side at the waist (see detail).  A few dings here and there, finish checking throughout.  The pick guard appears to be a replacement.  Original tuner buttons have shrunken appreciably but still function.  There is a hole in the treble side on the lower bout where the output jack for a floating pickup once lived.  Great neck angle and playability, includes non-original vintage hard case.

This guitar can be heard playing rhythm support in the embedded AT-16 video (fast forward to the last third of the video).
