(NEW) Pirate Guitars is the brainchild of Andy Armstrong, a talented builder in Bozeman MT who for the last seven years has been apprenticing and assisting the great Kevin Kopp. While working side by side with Kevin has imbued Andy's instruments with some of the same vibes as the guitars made by his mentor, Pirate Guitars also have their own thing going, and it's a GOOD thing... this particular model, though, is more or less a dead-ringer for Kopp's mainstay K35. From the thin lacquer finish to the hand-rubbed sunburst, you can tell the Kevin has taught Andy very well!
Jumbo/Slope D model with torrefied Adirondack spruce top and braces, mahogany back and sides. The fingerboard and bridge are Madagascar rosewood. Appointments are simple and classic, with ivoroid body binding, firestripe pick guard and single band rosette. The hand-rubbed sunburst is right up their with Kevin's own.
Short scale, approx 24 3/4" with 1 3/4" nut and 2 5/16" string spacing at the saddle. Hot hide glue construction. Waverly tuners.
You've heard us describe Kopp's version of this guitar as "Gibson on steroids" and that descriptor fits here, too. Extremely satisfying bass, thumpy woody tonal character, a very dynamic instrument. Includes original TKL hard case.
