(NEW) This is the first of a series of guitars that we've ordered from Huss & Dalton with their relic'd finish package, which features a pre-aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the top and peghead and some simulated play wear throughout the guitar. This has become a bonafide movement in the acoustic guitar world, with many players not just enjoying the look of a well-worn guitar (one with superior fretwork and intonation to a vintage example) but also the level of comfort that comes from not worrying about that first ding... or the second... or the third...because Mark Dalton has “pre-dinged” it for you!
The Pilgrim was a guitar that we requested from Mark Dalton for years, a traditional guitar that evoked the look and sound of the large sound hole dreadnought made famous by Clarence White and Tony Rice. It starts life as a traditional "28" style dread with enlarged sound hole (4 3/8" vs the standard 4"-ish) and no logo on the peghead. The large sound hole tempers the bass and creates a guitar rich with tonal nuance, more presence, with no loss of guts! This one has a torrefied Adirondack spruce top, Adirondack bracing (hide glue) and Indian rosewood back and sides.
1 23/32" nut width, long scale with a mod "V" neck profile and relic'd mahogany neck. 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle, which is tall and bone-y. Ebony fingerboard with ivoroid binding and no position markers on the fretboard (it does have side dots). Relic'd Waverly tuners complete the look and feel of the vintage-inspired flat top.
In the spirit of creating road-worthy, stage-ready guitar, we also had the team at Huss & Dalton install a K&K Pure Mini pickup at the shop. It’s “road worn" and “stage ready” on day #1 It's good to go! And man, can she go!!
