(NEW) And what do we have here? Collings’ top of the line D3 dreadnought, this one with the rare and precious (Premium grade) MadRose (Madagascar Rosewood) back and sides, stellar Adirondack spruce top (with Adirondack braces) and 1 and 3/4″ nut width. Collings has just recently been able to procure some premium MadRose sets, after a long hiatus during which we could not offer the highly regarded tonewood.

As rosewoods go, MadRose has *most* of the brilliance of Brazilian, and some of the warmth of East Indian. It is never shrill, nor is it boomy.

This top-of-the-line Collings “3” series dread, then, includes abalone rosette, gold Waverly tuners, and style 3 backstrip. The sound of this MadRose/Adi dread is refined, powerful, and harmonically complex – but balanced, focused and never boring. It is a joy to play, and a treat for both the eyes and ears.
