(NEW) One of the coolest parts of our job is when an instrument arrives that is just so objectively great, we have the feeling that it could make an impression on even the most seasoned player. Collings hits this mark more often than not, but even then, some instruments just go to a whole other level... whether it's a well thought out combination of specs, or just two magical sets of wood selected by Bruce... it's probably a little bit of everything.
Collings has a dizzying number of models and options to suit almost any taste, but their newest model offering, the 14-fret 00, checks just about every box. Its small-to-medium size is uber-comfortable, and particularly in the Traditional configuration, has sound and depth of tone to rival the best OMs. This particular 002HT SB is just a flat-out stunner, in both looks and tone. It leaves us wanting for NOTHING. The smooth satin finish is a delight to play (and to look at, let's be honest!) The dark sunburst is superb. The binding and herringbone are poppin' something fierce. It's just SO... GOOD!
Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides. Traditional build includes animal protein glue construction, no tongue brace, forward-shifted and scalloped Sitka spruce braces with small maple bridge plate. In a shop full of excellent guitars, this little guitar has grabbed our attention in a big way.
