Bourgeois LDBO-13, Aged Tone Bearclaw Sitka Spruce, Figured Cherry, Shade Burst - NEW - SOLD

SOLD

(NEW) Wow, what a spectacular little 00 from Bourgeois!  This highly customized LDBO has a combination of features that you won't find anywhere else.

We started with a torrefied (Aged Tone) Bearclaw Sitka spruce top, and also some mesmerizing, highly figured cherry for the back and sides.  Cherry shares some of the dryness and warmth associated with mahogany, but also has its own tonal profile, a unique complexity that doesn't sacrifice clarity.  It is a shame that we don't see it on more instruments, but maybe that will change in the future?

With an assured tone wood combination, we move on to the design of the instrument: the LDBO is Bourgeois' interpretation of a Gibson-style 00, or L-00.  We borrowed a few moves from the Gibby playbook on this one, having it built at 13-frets to the body (more warmth than a 14-fret, more projection than 12) and a short scale length.  The braces are scalloped, torrefied Adirondack spruce.  1 3/4" nut, 2 5/16" string spacing at the bridge.

The guitar also has a distinctive visual presentation, with a custom shade burst on the top, rare custom "half herringbone" top purfling (that we believe has only been used on one other Bourgeois) and subtly figured Ziricote for the fingerboard and bridge.  The board has "tiny" MOP dot inlays.  Though the neck finish is smooth satin, the headstock face is gloss with aging toner and MOP logo with "AJ" inlay.  Waverly tuners.

It's comfortable as can be and has a sweet, inviting tone.
