ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!
(USED) We feel very, very lucky to have a gently pre-owned I-35 Deluxe, just in on consignment! As many of you know, the Collings backlog has been NO JOKE since the pandemic hit, and certain models can take years to get. Their electrics are more popular than ever, so a guitar of this magnitude should garner some serious attention!
This is a solid, carved I-35 Deluxe (not an LC, not laminated) so it has the longer sustain and richer sound of a solid wood guitar. The flamed maple top has some serious visual "pop" to it, and the entire guitar has caramel stain applied, bringing the various tone woods into aesthetic harmony. The back is one-piece mahogany, as is the neck, and being a Deluxe model this one has ivoroid binding top to bottom, custom ivoroid top hat knobs and pickup rings made in house, and stellar split-parallelogram inlays on a Madagascar rosewood fingerboard.
As is the custom on the I-35, this guitar has a 1 11/16" nut on a C-shaped neck, inspired by Bill Collings' favorite late '50s Les Paul guitars. The pickups are Lollar Imperials, the standard humbucker on Collings electrics, chosen after exhaustive testing of every available pickup. To our ears, the Lollars have a relatively early saturation point and a smoothness that make them a great choice for a semi-hollow.
Condition is excellent overall, no fret wear, no structural issues, just (2) finish dings thanks to a run-in with a music stand. Thanks to the figured maple, they are very hard to detect, but we tried our best to capture them in the detail photos. One is about 1/4" in diameter, round, the other is about 1/4" long and has more of a scratch-like appearance. Trust us, though, they won't spoil the party on a next-level guitar like this.
If you're on this page, and you've read all this, then you probably already know what you're looking at! Guitars like this don't come along every day! Compare at $8,100 and a good long wait to order new...
