2007 Collings SoCo Deluxe, FIRST EVER! Quilted Maple, Mahogany - USED - SOLD

SOLD

ON CONSIGNMENT, NO TRADE OFFERS PLEASE!

(USED) When Bill Collings surprised us (along with the whole guitar world) by introducing a line of electric guitars at NAMM 2006, we knew that our lives would never quite be the same again.  As we gazed in wonder at these fabulous musical machines, Bill approached us in the NAMM booth...

"So how many do ya want?"
"But Bill, we're Acoustic Music Works... we don't carry electric guitars!"
"You do NOW!"

This SoCo takes us right back and reminds us that when Mr. Collings wanted to do something, he was pretty much unstoppable.  The SoCo model was introduced in 2007 and this is, literally, SoCo Numero Uno, serial #7001.  Fortunately for everyone, it has been meticulously cared for, and though the pickup covers could use a little buff-up, it is otherwise in showroom condition.

It is important to remember that the early Collings semi-hollows were all solid wood, carved top and back guitars.  The Laminate Construction (LC) series came along a short time later, more in line with traditional Gibsons and such... but this SoCo, like everything from its era, shares a good bit of DNA with high end jazz and archtop guitars.  The SoCo is the single-cut cousin of the famed I-35.  This Deluxe model has premium quilted maple on top, a mahogany body and mahogany neck with Collings' '59 "C" profile.  It has split parallelogram inlays on a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and is fully bound, body, neck and (flared) peghead.

The pickups are Lollar Imperials, chosen by Bill as standard issue for Collings electrics after exhaustive testing.  The pickup rings and tone/volume knobs were made in-house at Collings.  1 11/16" nut.

As stated, the condition is excellent.  No fret wear, no scratches or dings.  The word "collectable" sells this one a little short... it's kind of just perfect.  Includes original TKL hard case.

The weight?  Oh yeah: 6 lbs, 15 oz.
