1996 Santa Cruz Guitar Company Orchestra Model, Adirondack Spruce, Brazilian Rosewood - USED

(USED) Who is ready for a lifetime guitar?  In our opinion, the SCGC OM from 1996 absolutely nails the sound of a rich pre-war example.  Of the boutique shops creating OMs today (and there are many) Santa Cruz sticks closest to the warm tonal blueprint of the best Martin originals.  This one has an extremely satisfying bass response, but also isn't overly scooped in the mids.  It would be considered the Platonic ideal Orchestra Model by many.

It starts out with excellent materials selection, tight-grained Adirondack spruce and excellent quartersawn Brazilian rosewood.  Combined with forward-shifted, scalloped Adirondack braces it checks all of the sonic boxes.  It is cosmetically unfussy with classic "28" style ivoroid binding, herringbone rosette and herringbone top purfling, but has been dressed up ever-so slightly with the addition of fingerboard and peghead binding.  The mahogany neck has a V shape with relatively flat shoulders, 1 3/4" nut width and 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle.  Martin long 25.4" scale length.  The peghead has a diamond volute and closed gear tuners.

Condition is absolutely excellent for a guitar approaching 30 years old!  There are a few very shallow dings on the top, nothing through the lacquer.  A couple very small lacquer chips on the peghead.  Very light fret wear under the "B" string in the first position, nowhere near a fret dress or refret.  Action is excellent with nice tall saddle.  It's the full package.

Easily the best sounding Santa Cruz OM that we've represented.  Includes original hard case, or call to discuss Calton upgrade.
