Thursday December 12th, 2024 - Our last show of 2024 is going to be a DOOZY! We are combining our 3rd annual Hawkins/Landon/Morin blues and rag extravaganza with an appearance by Penna Players!
Penna Players are a traditional jazz group based out of Pittsburgh, PA that performs classic jazz, swing and blues sounds from the early 1900s. Expect takes on everything from Django Reinhardt to Gershwin and Louis Armstrong, with original music inspired by those musical traditions.
Ernie Hawkins is one of the world's leading experts on the music of Reverend Gary Davis, and has been performing and teaching blues guitar for over 50 years. He will be joined by two of his students: Nic Landon is an author and music educator living north of Pittsburgh. He has written three books including a soon-to-be-released book tentatively titled "Myrtle Stumpf and the Dawn of the Steel Guitar". He principly plays guitar, banjo, and diatonic accordions. Nic can still be found playing around the region in various folk, swing, and polka combos, and has been pilfering books from Ernie Hawkins' library for more than ten years. Raymond Morin is the luthier and shop manager at Acoustic Music Works, and is known to play a mixture of classic rags, English folk chestnuts and original songs on the fingerpicked acoustic guitar.
