Collings 0002H 12-Fret, Baked Sitka Spruce, Indian Rosewood, Short Scale - NEW

(NEW) 12-fretters can sometimes get a reputation for being less versatile, after all, you're giving up all those really high sounding notes up there near the sound hole... but, for us mere mortals that spend more time in the first and second positions, the tonal and ergonomic benefits of the classic 12-fret design offer plenty of excitement!  That doesn't need that we need to hold tight to every last traditional detail, and in fact we typically customize a 000 much in the manner you see here.

This would be, by default, a long-scale guitar with wide 1 13/16" nut, but we've asked Collings to change all that.  THIS guitar is short scale, 24 7/8", and the nut is 1 3/4" with a string spacing of 2 3/16" at the saddle.  We prefer this nut width on the Collings mod-V neck, and the shorter scale feels slinkier and warms up the voice.  There are some nods to vintage here, though, notably the torrefied Sitka top, which lends a dry and responsive character, a nice match for the high overtone content of Indian rosewood.  A bunch of little design choices that add up to one big playing experience!

The cosmetics are standard 2 Series, with herringbone top trim, zipper back strip, ivoroid body binding, diamond and square inlays on the ebony fingerboard.  This one has a pyramid bridge and a solid peghead for quicker string changes.  She's a looker, in a pretty understated way!  Price includes hard case.
