(NEW) For a decade or so, we've been watching the L-00 wars unfold, and pretty much all of our manufacturers are creating new spins on this old Gibson design, much like they did for the dreadnought and OM years decades ago. It's a testament to the popularity of the size, which is beloved as a midway point between a parlor and an OM, sharing tonal attributes of each. Dana Bourgeois' version, the L-DB, avoids the trap of boxiness that these guitars sometimes find themselves in.... instead, he hits his usual target of balance and tonal sophistication.
This one has an Aged Tone (torrefied) Adirondack spruce top, tight-grained and displaying some winter growth. The back and sides are a very handsome set of sinker mahogany, mahogany that spent some amount of time submerged underwater and collecting mineral deposits to give it its own tonal and visual character. We tend to think that sinker mahogany guitars go to that "next level" in terms of volume and tonal richness, compared to standard mahogany models.
Cosmetics include ivoroid body binding with cross-cut ivoroid top purfling and rosette. The fingerboard and bridge are figured Ziricote, and the board has small pearl dot inlays. The nut width is Bourgeois' standard 1 23/32" and the string spacing at the bridge is 2.2". Short 25" scale length. The neck is a comfortable mod V with a smooth satin finish. The tuners are Waverly with ivoroid buttons. Original hard case included.
A handsome and comfortable guitar that brings the L-00 into the modern age!
