(USED) Just in on consignment, very charming 12-fret 000 from Santa Cruz, built in 2002. This shape can be a little tricky, folks see pictures online and assume it's a small guitar, while in fact it has approximately the same air volume as an Orchestral Model. There are some ergonomic and tonal gains from the 12-fret neck joint and related bridge placement, to be sure. 12-fret guitars tend to skew warmer and richer, all other things being equal, because the bridge sits closer to the center of the lower bout.
This guitar is warm and Martin-esque, not as scooped in the mids but having an impressive tonal character. Sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood back/sides, mahogany neck. The nut width is 1 3/4", with 2 3/16" string spacing at the saddle and long 25.4" scale length. The neck is a mod V shape, with .908" depth at the first fret and 1" depth at the 9th, vintage feel but not "baseball bat". Pretty traditional 28-Style appointments with herringbone top purfling and full ivoroid binding.
Condition is very good with a slight belly behind the bridge but still very easy action, healthy saddle height. There is a little bit of finish disturbance at the front of the bridge from the string pull, plenty of lacquer checking on the top and a bit of fret wear under the unwound strings in the first position. A few dings and light scrapes, no structural issues. Includes hard case.
Offering at a good price for a quick sale, this one has been impressing on the sales floor! One of those "feels like an old friend" guitars.
