They are a great singer-songwriter’s guitar in addition to being perhaps the ultimate large bottleneck blues (Hello Ry Cooder!) guitar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is, after all, a short scale X-braced slope D, this one with Waverly tuners, 1 and 3\/4″ nut, ivoroid logo in a satin finish Ziricote peghead overlay, HIDE GLUE, and some (long awaited!) super-special highly figured CLARO WALNUT! The wood is highly figured with some subtle sapwood at the edges and center. Very organic. The walnut, we find, is slightly warmer, and a bit more reserved than mahogany, but with a bit of complexity that mahogany lacks. If you’ve already got the mahogany version, the walnut version will keep you occupied as we build you the koa version! Oh, the humanity!! A chime-y, singing blues guitar that likes to be driven aggressively (not that we advocate aggressive driving) and rewards the operator with superb thwack, zap, and dry shizzle. (Austin Powers voice: YEAH BABY!)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn all seriousness, this axe (looks kinda like an axe, right?  Okay, we'll stop...) has a lot going for it.  It has that slim as can be '60s neck, just 1 17\/32\" at the nut, and just over 2\" string spacing at the bridge.  It is a long scale guitar, just under 25 1\/2\", and the higher string tension is tempered by the mellow tone of the nylon saddles.  The laminated maple body is mostly free of visual figuring.  Pickups are nickel plated PAF humbuckers.  It’s got closed gear tuners with pearloid Imperial knobs and Split parallelogram inlays on a bound rosewood fingerboard with a big old flared headstock and Barney Kessel ”badge” tailpiece. Whereas a “custom” might have maple neck, bound f-holes, and gold hardware, a “regular” generally has nickel hardware, mahogany neck, and un-bound f-holes like this one.
