(NEW) Without reservation, we express our long-standing reverence for Stiver mandolins. They are among the finest in the world, and we get excited whenever we get our hands on one. Imagine our excitement, then, now that we are able, exclusively, to offer the 40th Anniversary Stiver mandolin.
When Lou Stiver and I discussed the idea for his 40th Anniversary mandolins, we couldn’t think of a lot of changes, since the 400 or so Stiver mandolins out there pretty much speak for themselves, and Stiver-owners tend to be some of the most contented and loyal and least likely to want to trade one away…so we kept it simple, but elegant…
But Mr. Stiver did honor our request for some very unique woods – and he acquired a few sets of incredibly nice 60+ year-old SALVAGED SUGAR MAPLE for us, large enough to yield a ONE-PIECE back, which we dearly love. The special woods add $$$ to the MSRP, but as you can see from the photos (several of which are slightly over-exposed to show the SPECTACULAR grain and figure) we got what we paid for.
The mandolin is accessorized with a special *40th Anniversary* gold engraved James tailpiece and tortoise pick guard, IVOROID bindings with black purfling, gold strap button, radiused fretboard with ” faux-fretted” Florida fretboard scoop and gold Gotoh tuners with black knobs. Price includes a deluxe ($295 MSRP) TKL rectangular case – or, for an instrument of this quality, we can substitute a new SONIC BLUE Calton case (shown below) for $500 additional.
Stiver mandolins are individually handcrafted one at a time in Western Pennsylvania by our good friend Lou Stiver.
As pretty as this instrument is, Stiver mandolins are famous for their tone.
Note: Some of the pics are slightly over-exposed to show the figure in the wood. The over-exposed pics make the instrument look more “red” than it is. The mandolin is a warm honey-burst brown as shown in several of the pics, including a few (taken in room light without flash).
