(NEW) Collings MT-2, Italian Spruce, Creme finish over burgundy – $3,622

JUST ARRIVED  – MORE GOOD WOOD!!

We sell about forty Collings mandolins each year and we like to think we get a bit smarter with each instrument.  We pick our own wood, and we pat our own backs, and we’ve got a sharp eye for the good stuff..

We’ve gotten great satisfaction from our relationship with Collings. Here is a gorgeous MT2 with that creme/ivory top with woods personally selected by us – including a nice flamey back of good hard burgundy-stained Sugar maple and a superb Italian spruce top. We’ve had great luck with the oval-hole MT2-O model in this finish and decided the f-hole MT-2 version deserved the same lovely cosmetic treatment.

Quickly becoming the industry-standard for pro grade A model, we feel the MT-2 instrument represents the best buy in Collings’ mandolin line. They are consistently fine!

This one has IVOROID bindings, nickel Elite tuners with ivoroid knobs, cast Collings tailpiece, and the standard 1 and 1/8″ nut width. It is a lovely thing indeed. We also have one in stock (#3601) with identical features save for the wider 1 and 3/16″ nut width.

Listen up: There’s a new gal in town, and they call her “Italian Spruce.”  Less stiff than Adirondack Red spruce, stiffer than the softer Engelmann spruce. She’s the Goldilock’s solution many of us have been searching for.

The Italian spruce top, for lack of a better descriptor, has a sound that resembles well broken in Adirondack spruce. It has a crisp yet warm throaty punch with plenty of clarity. Immediate gratification, she offers, and a flair for the exotic.
