(USED) John Allison earned his stripes as a builder and sunburst artist at Collings before starting his own family brand in Austin, TX. He makes a variety of acoustic and electric instruments, and also does professional finish work for a number of other companies.
This guitar is Allison’s take on the pre-war D18, an Adirondack-topped mahogany dreadnought with a beautiful sunburst. Is the sound modern vintage? Vintage modern? We don’t know, but it’s pretty nice! Less bass-forward than a Martin and not quite as hot in the midrange as a Collings, this is an authoritative bluegrass guitar that can also be strummed lightly for vocal accompaniment.
1 3/4″ nut, 2 1/4″ string spacing at the saddle. Tortoise body binding. Ebony bridge, pins, fingerboard and headstock overlay. A great guitar in every way!
Excellent condition with just a couple headstock nicks and very minor fret wear under the B string.
