SOLD – (USED) Collings CW MRA Varnish, Adirondack, Madagascar Rosewood – SOLD

(USED) With the popularity of the great Tony Rice and all of the guitarists that he has inspired, we’re seeing a real surge of interest in large soundhole dreadnoughts. We hear the larger soundhole as tempering the low end, adding a focus to the overtone content of a rosewood guitar. Collings isn’t new to the large soundhole game, and his CW has been a popular model in the lineup or a long time.

We now have available a SUPERB example from 2010 with just beautiful Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Collings has historically used only the finest two-piece Madrose backs, and this perfectly book-matched set has extraordinary landscaping, the likes of which we rarely see anymore. The Adirondack top is uniformly tight-grained and has some subtle and lovely silking. The varnish finish, being somewhat thinner and softer than lacquer, has the characteristic of allowing the top to vibrate very easily, resulting in an extremely responsive instrument… it also gives the guitar a slightly aged look without the use of aging toner.

Standard CW specs include 1 23/32″ nut, cut-through saddle with string spacing of 2 1/4″. Bound ebony fingerboard with no inlays on the face. Dalmation pickguard. This guitar has a dark, burly Brazilian rosewood peghead overlay (no shipping outside the US, sorry). No structural issues to speak of, a few light dings on the top, in overall excellent condition. Comes with original TKL hardshell case.

It doesn’t get much better than this, folks!
