SOLD – (USED) 1994 Collings D1, Adirondack Top, Mahogany, A Real Player! – SOLD

(USED) We get the request constantly: find me a pre-owned Collings, the more beat up the better, I don’t need no fancy options, I just need some SOUND.  Well, ask and you shall receive!  Here we have an awesome early D1 that left the Collings shop in November, 1994.  It’s got its share of dings, winder marks, lacquer chips, and has had a re-fret or two over the years..  but it remains crack-free, has never had a pickup installed, and best of all it has SOUND.  A lot of it!

This guitar strikes us immediately as very warm, and for a D1(A), dependably one of the biggest, baddest guitars that can be bought, it’s even a bit mellow.  Not a bad thing!  It still packs a punch, but the mids and highs are anything but harsh, and the bass has become rich and round over the years.  Want a classic mahogany dread by one of the worlds best builders, without the worry of having to baby it?  We’ve got your next guitar!

1 11/16″ nut, 2 3/16″ string spacing at the saddle.  Adirondack top (though this guitar is marked “D1” we’ve confirmed it… and it’s great looking Adi, to boot!)  Honduran mahogany back and sides, tortoise binding, open back Waverly tuners, Collings has changed the formula very little over the years.

Back to the condition: like we said, no cracks but plenty of “character marks” including a couple deep dings on the neck (pictured), a bit of fish eye on the treble side, serious winder marks around pretty much every tuner, and finish dings pepper the top.  The frets are newer, and appear to have their whole life ahead of them.  Comes with original hardshell case in good condition, but we could certainly help you with an upgrade if that’s your desire.
