(NEW) Since the early prototypes, the flagship WL-14, to the WL-K and now with new models like the Scissortail, AMW has been your one-stop shop for all things Waterloo. We LOVE these guitars. Waterloo is the brainchild of one Bill Collings, and his affection for the sound, look and VIBE of depression-era instruments is obvious with every new model they introduce.
This is our first Jumbo King Deluxe in the newly offered jet-black finish, and it simply oozes attitude! The “Deluxe” model features a variety of appointments that aren’t on the standard model, but structurally and tonally they are identical. Deluxe appointments include full neck and body binding (including the back and soundhole) as well as oversized dot inlays on the fingerboard and of course Collings’ distinctive tuner covers, a nod to his lifelong obsession with classic cars. The tuner covers, like this guitar itself, are manufactured right here in the US… in Austin, TX to be exact!
This WL-JK has a Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, 1 3/4″ nut and a pronounced “V” neck profile. It is very light for a jumbo guitar, which translates to a clear, immediate tone and quick response. Some pro players have likened it to a dried out 40s Gibby jumbo, and we hear that, too. This is the only large guitar in the Waterloo lineup, and while it has more volume and all-around “oomph,” it still evokes the dry and fundamental sound that over 1500 happy Waterloo owners have fallen head over heels for.
Is it good? Well, yeah. Wait… NO! It’s GREAT! Get it before it’s gone!
