This guitar has a standard tight-grained Sitka top, still the most popular top wood in the world for its medium stiffness and can-do attitude. It’s a great pairing with the comparatively exotic Wenge back and sides, an African hardwood that to our ears sounds very much like Brazilian… focused overtones with a darker voice and a slight “glassy” character. With Brazilian off the menu at Collings, we’ve gone deeper and deeper into Wenge over the last couple of years, finding that it scratches the same itch in many cases, at a much lower price. We also find ourselves drawn to its uniform color and perfect quartersawn appearance.
This guitar has a 1 3/4″ nut and the standard 2 3/16″ string spacing at the saddle. Standard cosmetics include herringbone top trim, ebony pins, peghead, fingerboard and bridge, and ivoroid body binding. Comes with original TKL hardshell case.
