(NEW) Collings D1A Traditional, Adirondack Spruce, Mahogany – $5,535

(NEW) Wow.  Goodness.  I mean… wow!

Collings has really done it this time… created a single guitar that can be justifiably knick-named either “Beauty” or “BEAST!”  The rumble that emerges from this guitar when strummed is the stuff of legend.  It’s a deep, moving sound.  One of the warmest brand-new Collings dreads we’ve ever heard!

The Traditionals are mapping the future of Collings by gazing back toward the past, and these instruments are built with specs and materials that are certainly vintage-inspired.  Lighter builds overall, bigger necks, animal glue construction, no tongue braces, and super-comfy rolled fingerboard edges.  This one began life innocently enough, with the typically inspired wood selection of Bruce, and did he ever hit this one out of the park.  Look at that top!  Pale, beautiful wide-grained Adirondack and perfectly quartered Honduran mahogany.  We couldn’t imagine better back and side woods.

The nut width is 1 3/4″ and the string spacing at the cut-through saddle is 2 5/16″.  25.5″ scale.  Stew Mac “tortoise” style bridge pins and end pin.  Includes lovely, form-fitting Collings vintage style case.

If you have been waiting for a wall-shaking bluegrass dreadnought, your time has arrived.  Awesome, awesome guitar.
